Lisbon Airport (LIS)

Airport in Lisbon, Portugal

Introduction

Lisbon Airport also known as Portela Airport, is an international airport located 7km from the city centre of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. In Portuguese, it is referred to as Aeroporto de LisboaAeroporto da Portela, or Aeroporto da Portela de Sacavém. It takes its name from the neighbouring parish(freguesia) of Portela in Loures Municipality, formerly known as Portela de Sacavém.

The airport is the main international gateway to Portugal and a major European hub. It is the 25th largest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume, having served 22.4 million passengers in 2016, an increase over the previous year by 11.7%, and the most in its history. As of 2016, the airport handled 92.2 thousand tons of cargo, and served 121 destinations with 47 airlines. It is the most strategically important European hub to Brazil, and serves as the largest Star Alliance hub to South America. It is also one of the most important European hubs to Africa.

The airport is the main hub of TAP Portugal and its subsidiary TAP Express, a focus city for easyJet, Ryanair and Azores Airlines and also the base for charter airlines such as euroAtlantic Airways, Hi Fly and White Airways.

Transportation

Located just 20 minutes away from the city centre, getting to or coming from the Lisbon Airport is easy. You have at your service an efficient public transportation network that can ensure you arrive where you need to go quickly and comfortably. Choose the transportation that best suits your needs.

Metro

The Lisbon Airport has a Metro (subway) station with a direct line to the city centre. The 'Aeroporto – Saldanha' line takes you to downtown Lisbon in about 20 minutes. The Metro network will allow you to move around the city at ease. It is a quick and inexpensive way to get around, plus you'll get to see Lisbon's subway stations – each with its own theme and décor.http://metro.transporteslisboa.pt/

Buses

Several bus lines stop at the airport arrivals terminal, taking you to different parts of the city. However, please note that the maximum baggage size allowed in these buses is 50x40x20cm. If your baggage exceeds this size, you must take the airport's specific buses (Aerobus and Airport Shuttle).

Fare (on-board): €1.80

You must purchase the '7 Colinas' / 'Viva Viagem' electronic travel card, which you can then top up with balance for your journeys, which can be used both for the Metro and for Carris (bus network):

7 Colinas / Viva Viagem electronic card: €0.50
Single Fare Price: €1.40
24H Network Pass: €6.00

http://carris.transporteslisboa.pt/

Shuttle

The main difference between the two shuttle options is that, while the AeroBus follows a specific route, the Airport Shuttle will take passengers where they need to go.

Aerobus

With frequent departures from the airport, this bus provides a link between the main city points, the Sete Rios bus terminal, the Entrecampos railway terminal, Cais do Sodré, Areeiro-Martim Moniz and the two terminals at the Lisbon Airport (1 and 2). It stops near the city's main hotels and digital panels at each stop provide information updated every minute.

With a completely renewed image and fleet for greater comfort on the journey, the new buses now have a set of new features: free Wi-Fi, USB chargers, luggage compartment, access for reduced mobility and a team available to provide information.

One-way ticket: 24H AEROBUS PASS
Adults: €4.00, Children (ages 4 to 10): €2.00, Groups (4 or more adults): €3.00

Return Ticket: 2 X 24H AEROBUS PASS
Adults: €6.00, Children (ages 4 to 10): €3.00, Groups (4 or more adults): €4,50

The 24h AEROBUS PASS can be purchased on board, online, at aerobus.pt, or at the Turismo de Lisboa counters, in arrivals. The ticket is valid for 24 hours of unlimited journeys in the Aerobus network.https://www.aerobus.pt

Train

10 minutes away by Metro and a bit longer by bus, you can get to Gare do Oriente, the main train station in Lisbon, where you can take trains to all parts of the country. You can also get there by taxi, if you find that more convenient.

Buses: Nos. 208, 705 and 744
Metro Station: Oriente

Taxi

You can always find a taxi at the airport, normally queueing outside the departures and arrivals terminals.

As the city centre is very close by, taxis are a rather affordable transportation option, even with the luggage and/or pet fees that may be charged separately by the driver.

Depending on traffic, the journey to the city centre is quick, costing between 10 and 15 euros, including luggage fees. If you choose this mean of transportation, make sure the meter is turned on at the beginning of the journey and always ask for a receipt/invoice.

Car

The airport is easily accessible by several major highways and main roads. ANA operates several covered and open parking areas. Valet service, car hire, and chauffeur limousine services are also available.

Bicycle

Two bicycle paths connect the airport roundabout, situated 300m South of Terminal 1 to the city's 70 km cycle infrastructure network. One path heads West along Av. do Brasil to the Universidade de Lisboa main campus, passing through the central neighbourhoods of Alvalade, Campo Grande and Entrecampos and connecting with other paths to Telheiras, Colegio Militar, Benfica, and Monsanto Forest Park. The other bicycle path heads East from the roundabout towards Olivais, Gare do Oriente train station and Parque das Nações Expo 98 site, connecting with the riverside bicycle path Southwards along Lisbon harbour to Santa Apolónia train station, cruise ship and ferry terminals, and the historic centre, and North to the Caminho do Tejo pilgrimage trail to Fátima and Santiago de Compostela.

Terminals

Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport features two passenger terminal buildings:

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the main building and features large landside and airside areas containing several shops and service facilities. It consists of two check-in halls, the older one containing 13 desks (1–13), and the newer one housing 68 desks (37–89 and 90–106). The joint departures area features 29 gates, most of which are equipped with jet-bridges, with 7 of them designated to non-Schengen destinations. As the airport features several more apron stands, bus boarding is also frequently used here. Most airlines use Terminal 1, including TAP Portugal and its Star Alliance partners.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is the much smaller and newer of the two terminals, mainly used by low-cost carriers. It is located away from Terminal 1 on the southern border of the airport. It has 21 check-in desks (201–222) and 15 departure gates (201–215) using mainly walk boarding but also bus. There are only basic facilities and a few shops and service counters in Terminal 2. The terminal can only be reached by a free shuttle service from Terminal 1. The main users of Terminal 2 are easyJetand Ryanair.
